The community runs monthly themed game jams and is generally friendly and helpful. My anxiety has decided that means 'oh, all the player characters are just actors. the tab for the player characters is called the 'actors' tab. It's expected to be a competitive 3d engine for indie developers where moving fast and shipping under budget is more important than optimization. I don’t quite understand why you don’t continue using RPG Maker, as it’s laser-focused on making the exact sort of game you want to make and you say you are good at using it. The 2d support is definitely more mature than the 3d, but this is rapidly changing. They have a Blender addon which improves its Collada exporting abilities greatly, but most other 3d modelling software isn't explicitly supported. Maya doesn't play nice w/ licensing and they own the format. FBX support is in the pipeline as a free closed-source addon. The engine currently prefers Collada for 3d model imports, because the license isn't proprietary. With RPG Maker MV, you can make your very own game without any programming knowledge whatsoever.But because of its inherent extensibility, the engine allows. Languages which compile to machine code are supported through GDNative, with C, C++, and Rust being well-supported. If you have a preference of language, then fear not! There are language bindings for C# and F# through Mono. It has good integration with it's own scripting language, GDScript, which feels like Python but with a lot of graphics types in the default namespace. EarnestTuonetar's Experience Godot is an amazing way for beginners (either in game development or even in general programming) to produce performant-enough, cross-platform games without the worry of eventual licensing costs.
